Serving

Serving

Our churches thrive on volunteer involvement.  But why do we limit this to adults?  Have you considered involving kids and youth in serving opportunities as well?

Top 5 reasons to have kids and youth on serving teams at your church

  1. It offers younger people the same opportunity to serve God by serving others.
  1. It creates moments of mentorship, a valuable way to grow in faith with those who have more experience.
  1. It develops skills and even leadership in our younger church family members.
  1. It invests in our younger generations, so they feel valued and loved in our church families.  This will help them stay with the church during difficult times or times of transition.
  1. It’s fun!  Share the joy of serving together.

Of course, we need to ensure that kids and youth serving is a winning experience for everyone involved.  Please consider:

  • Is this age appropriate?  For safety, spiritual and emotional maturity?
  • Is this entrusting too much responsibility to a young person, or is this right sized?
  •  Is the time commitment fair for a younger person?
  • How can we create milestones of success for the young participant so they can see their growth and development?

Where are some great places young people can serve?

  • Hospitality team
  • AV team
  • Pastoral care – visits, cards, creating artwork to cheer up those who are housebound, sick, or lonely
  • Reading Scripture in the service
  • Worship team
  • Special Work days – fall/spring clean up
  • Decorating for Easter, Christmas or other special occasions
  • Mission and Outreach
  • Preparing for kids special events
