March’s Beatitude
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
As I reflected on this verse, I thought about a person who promotes God’s Kingdom which includes peace with God and with others. A person that is seeking reconciliation and quenching hatred and actively inviting those who are divided to do likewise. I think of someone that is promoting true understanding. I believe a peacemaker is not someone that simply creates an environment of peace but someone that pursues peacemaking in all spheres, amongst relationships, situations and community. There are two songs that immediately come to mind for me: Let There Be Peace on Earth and Make me a Channel of Peace. Both of these songs communicate a prayer of peacemaking that begins with me. What a powerful prayer to sing, particularly as we prepare to enter the season of Lent. The reality is, we absolutely cannot bring peace, nor be peacemakers apart from Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. We have peace with God and others because of Jesus and because of Jesus, the “Prince of Peace” being a peacemaker is possible!
I wonder what songs come to your mind as your reflect on this passage? What songs are you singing in your children and family ministries that convey this?
