If You Don’t Know Your Bible You Don’t Have a Prayer!
Greetings from Ken & Darlene Wall. We would like to tell you about our Harmony Baptist Bible Challenge. Our goal was to make up a very exciting interactive Bible trivia game show for the entire family that would inspire all age groups, from our youngest to our oldest, to become more excited about the Bible. We had three teams of three competing on Jan. 16th and Feb. 2nd with the two winning teams and a runner up team going head to head on March 2nd for the grand championship. The contestants ranged in age from 12 to 82. Contestants along with the entire congregation were e-mailed all the topics along with a whole lot of questions that we would be basing the show on. So now we had lots of people studying their Bibles in order to get ready for the big night. We wanted to get as many people involved in the Bible Challenge so we approached our choir director Patty Falletta and she got the choir excited about coming out. Each month the choir sang a wonderful assortment of exciting choruses that were intermingled into the Bible Challenge.
This was to be a family night with the children being as engaged in the show as their parents. Our presentation was highly visual and all the questions were on our big screen at the front of the church. We used a number of movie clips from major Hollywood movies to introduce the coming questions. Instead of Facebook we had Faithbook and we used our skills with Photoshop to develop some very interesting classified ads, greeting cards etc. The children and adults alike were highly entertained when they saw familiar faces inserted into various Biblical characters.
In each of our three games we had a child from our congregation tell their version of a famous Biblical story which was videotaped in advance. We had three children decked out in their official Harmony Baptist Bible Challenge t-shirts to be score keepers and they enthusiastically loved their job. During the breaks in our Bible Challenge they would go to the front with their white boards and hold up the scores for the teams. As well each team had their own Harmony Baptist Bible t-shirt. To make the game more exciting we purchased official game show buzzers. This gave our game the feel of a professional game show.
Our goal was to make this Bible Challenge so exciting that people would also invite out their friends and relatives. On January 16th, our first Bible Challenge, we had a great turn out and each of the following months the numbers increased. This was so encouraging to our contestants who truly had studied for months to get ready. Over the three months that we did our Bible Challenge, many people did indeed read their Bibles more. We even had a number of non-Christians who had never read a Bible before study up for the show which made all our efforts worthwhile.
Our church is excitedly anticipating next years show.
If your church would be interested we would love to come to your church and have a Bible Challenge with your church members. Contact us.
What a wonderful idea!! Would you do it again? If so, how often.
Dear Jan: You asked whether I would do a Bible Challenge again. The answer is a definite Yes! I will gladly come to any church and put on a Bible Challenge for them.
E-mail me, and we can make arrangements to come.
It was great to read about the Harmony Bible Challenge. Darlene and Ken Wall took the lead and got everyone excited and involved. They know and love the Lord and His Word, and want His people to know Him more deeply too. The best part of this whole venture was the joy in the children’s faces as they tried to answer the questions along with the teens, adults, and seniors. The church family was blessed by the Harmony Bible Challenge, and I thank God for the contributions made by everyone.
Thanks , I’ve just been looking for information approximately this topic for a while and yours is the greatest I’ve found out so far.
