Book Review
If you are looking for a children’s book that captures the wonder and mystery and the extraordinary in the ‘ordinary’ of Ascension, Pentecost and Ordinary Time–the Growing Time in a beautifully written way then you must grab a copy of Laura Alary’s latest book, Breathe. More then just a story book about this season of the Church Calendar, this book invites kids and adults into spiritual practices of pausing, breathing, contemplating, praying. She weaves together Scripture with every day experiences that children will be familiar with to reveal the connections and ways to see God in the midst of every day. She gently leads reads through a prayerful, mindful experience of paying attention to the work of the Holy Spirit around us. This is an excellent book for anyone seeking to nurture the spirituality of children through the church season of “ordinary time” in particular. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book. I think even adults will be deeply moved by the invitation to breathe in and breath out, to wonder about the mystery of this season. I also think this is a timely book in the way it approaches this current season in the church calendar, but also for the opportunity it offers to create space for kids to process a range of emotions, wonderings, questions and reflections as we continue through this pandemic experience.
Contact Bernice at Read On Books to grab a copy for you church/children’s library or to send to the families in your community. It is definitely worth the investment.
