An Investment of Eternal Significance
Joy-giving. Fun. Tiring. Blessing. Hard Work. Amazing. Frustrating. Active. Growing. Awe-inspiring. Humourous.
These are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of being involved in ministry with children. It is so joy-giving and such a blessing to be part of what the Holy Spirit is doing in the lives of these young ones. It’s amazing to learn from how they worship and experience God, to watch them engage with the stories of Scripture, to hear their spiritual insights as they pray. But, as anyone who’s ever worked with children knows, it is also hard work that can be quite tiring and at times frustrating when it seems like nothing is working and the kids are just not interested in engaging in anything you have planned. However, as time and experience has taught me, whether I think a lesson or activity has gone well or not, the Holy Spirit is always actively at work in the hearts and minds of these children drawing them into relationship with Him.
At the church community I am a part of, we believe in the value and importance of investing in children. As a community it is our intention to do all that we can to support and come alongside families who have been entrusted with the care and upbringing of young ones. One aspect of this support is the opportunity we provide for children to learn and worship on Sunday mornings in Kids Club. I am so thankful for the group of volunteers that invest their time and gifts in teaching children. Another way that we reflect the value and significance of the youngest among us is by having special ‘Remember & Celebrate’ All-Ages worship services. These services happen every couple months and are opportunities for the entire community, from young to old, to pause from the usual way of worship and worship all together.
I feel so privileged to be able to share my life and the way God has worked in me with children as they learn to discover Him for themselves. And I am so excited to be able to learn what others are doing and discovering as they work with the children in their midst. I’d love to hear from you about how God has blessed you through children’s ministry! How have you seen God at work in the lives of the children in your faith community?
