Book Review
A New York Times #1 best seller, this brand new, just published book that was begun by the late Rachel Held Evans and completed by Matthew Paul Turner, is definitely a book you will want to pick up! “What is God like?” is a question that every child wonders at some point and often asks the adults in their lives. This book does an absolutely beautiful job of addressing that question. Referencing a variety of Bible passages, this story paints pictures of what God is like. Images like eagle, river, shepherd are a few. Other images like fort, artist, dancer are also used. It is engaging, visually stunning, full of wonder and delightful. And it ends with something that is sure to become a back and forth mantra between adult and child,
“But whenever you aren’t sure what God is like, think about what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel brave, and what makes you feel loved. That’s what God is like.”
This book is delightful, inclusive, simple and yet full of profound statements and invites readers into a lifelong journey of wondering and learning about God. This book can spark many wonderful conversations with children about what God is like. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book for your church library or as a gift for families.
