Horton Hears a Who Movie Discussion Guide
Horton is an elephant who discovers a whole world that lives on a speck. Horton wants to take care of them and protect them, but no one believes him that they are even there! There are even folks who want to discredit and oppose Horton at every turn. This is a great movie to discuss truth-telling, sticking to the truth and exploring what caring for someone can really mean. You can find Horton Hears a Who on Disney+.
Who is your favourite character?
Horton heard a sound when the speck floated by. He was very curious. Do you consider yourself curious? What are you especially curious about?
Horton did what he could to keep the speck safe, to protect them. Who is protective of you? Have you seen or experienced God’s protection? What was that like?
Horton imagines himself to be an amazing hero. What kind of hero would you imagine yourself to be? Which special powers would you like to have?
Horton says that a person is a person no matter how small. 1 Timothy 4:12 says “ Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” How can you set a good example as a young person?
Why did it matter so much for Horton to tell the truth about the Whos?
The Mayor had to trust that Horton would deliver them to the safe place. In what ways do you need to trust God?
Both Horton and the Mayor had something important that they needed to share. The Mayor shared his news, and the Council tried to convince the Whos otherwise. Jesus asks us to share the gospel. How do you share the gospel? How do you share the gospel using words? How do you share the gospel without using words?
Horton and the Kangaroo become friends and work together in the end. Was there ever a time that you repaired a friendship? What was that like?
Other themes to discuss: compassion, integrity, leadership, friendship.
